3 Things a Personal Brand Has Done For Me

Having a personal brand has done so much for me. In my post 3 Reasons Why You Need a personal Brand, I share why I’m so passionate about you having a personal brand and why you need one.

A personal brand is more than just being a public figure on the internet, it really stretches you and essentially forces you to choose up on what you really want. You may not have all of the answers right away, but having the option to choose something different that is more aligned with what you ACTUALLY want is worth it in my opinion. Today I’m sharing 3 things having a personal brand has done for me.

3 Things Having a Lifestyle Brand Has Done For Me

Brand New Confidence

New confidence, who dis? No really though, I’ll be the first to admit, I was so far from confident when I first got online and called myself building an event brand. I suffered and struggled so much with that because deep down I wanted to be confident and believe in what I was putting out, but it wasn’t aligning so it wasn’t until I made a change that I no longer felt stuck.

Once I decided that I wanted to build a personal brand and make myself the face of it, I had to really unpack and discover who I was and who I wanted to be. A lot of time with God, a lot of shedding dead weight, dead ideals and a dead mindset, ya girl did a 360 and here I am now. Being able to walk into a room and know that I deserve to be there; going places and knowing that I represent my brand to the fullest; being present at certain events knowing that my brand embodies and encompasses that which the event is about AND the fact that someone else received that energy from seeing what I do or meeting me, that is a feeling that is beyond words.

Walking down the street with my head up and my shoulders back, it’s a lifestyle. I’m confident in who I am and who God has called me to be. To truly be confident in what you do takes you to new levels and I know God and having a personal brand has done that for me. If I had not done a switch up, I probably would still be somewhere doubting my potential and greatness and wow what a tragedy that would be.

New Opportunities

Having a personal brand has made things that appeared unattainable become a reality.

Mindset masterminds, private dinners, hotel photo shoots, speaking on panels, guest blogging and more has become my reality now. One of my first goals when I started my personal brand was to shoot with hotels and who knew it would come by way of our engagement photos, but also come as an opportunity with my husband. Even if that in particular isn’t your goal, having a personal brand created an opportunity for business.

Since starting this personal brand, I have since created 2 more brands, Paper and Poise and Black Girl Luxury. You don’t have to always know what the outcome is in order to follow the call. Paper and Poise is the reason I’m able to call myself an entrepreneur; I for sure didn’t think that was going to be one of my additional sources of income. Each of these new and current opportunities reminds me that there are no limits to what God can do and what he’ll do it through.

My Brand Gives Me Purpose Beyond My Paycheck

Work is what I do, work is not my purpose. I don’t know where I first heard that quote, but my Facebook memories brought it up and every time I see it, it reminds me that my personal brand has for sure given me so much purpose outside of my 9-5. No matter what comes up at work, I feel so proud knowing that I’m growing and building something that benefits me as I navigate life.

In my other post 3 Reasons Why You Need a Personal Brand, I mentioned telling your story beyond your resume and while the money is comfortable, I like knowing that my abilities and desires are way bigger than an organization may assume. Work isn’t everything, as millennials we are aware of this. Work has it’s place, some form of work always has to be done, but having my own personal brand has taught me that I can control the flow of work and do so in a way that models what I want my future to look like. Even if you aren’t sure what your purpose is at this exact moment, having a personal brand will ensure you get to explore it.

At the end of it all, a personal brand gives you creative direction and creative freedom over your life. Don’t you want to experience that for yourself?

Girl Yes! It’s a blessing to have a 9-5 that does fund what I’m doing, but thankfully my personal brand gives me a purpose so much bigger.
