Self Care: My Weekly Fitness Routine

I’m just trying to find the balance between summer time fine and winter time cold. I love being fit and in shape and I have actually gotten a few questions about how I stick to my fitness routine, what it looks like and how many times I work out. Let me preface this by saying what works for me may or may not work for you; I am a naturally small girl but small and fit are not the same.

Commit to at Least 3 Days A Week

I have committed to working out 3 days a week; Monday, Wednesday and Saturday Morning. Monday and Wednesday are my targeted strength training days and Saturday morning is for cardio.

I don’t go to the gym. Everything I do is at home or outdoors somewhere. I love all of the equipment that the gym has to offer but being outside is really peaceful and as a former soccer player it is where I spent a lot of my time. Monday and Wednesday I do 4-5 workouts, 5 sets each with 10, 15, or 20 reps depending on the weight I’m using.

I do a combination of 2 areas per workout, core and arms, arms and lower body or core and lower body. On a good day I’ll do all areas but I try to stick to two at a time; whatever I decide each area gets worked out evenly. My workouts are usually 30-45 minutes; 5 sets of each workout in a circuit style makes for a pretty solid fitness plan. If I want to push myself with just my body weight and kill a quick high intensity workout I’ll do the Culver City Stairs or Valley Ridge Hill.

I Don’t Go to the Gym

Saturday’s are for cardio. I played soccer, I ran track, I’ve ran a lot in my life and now that I’m older running is my least favorite. I’ve decided to run anyway because I feel like it’s a good full body detox; my whole body is involved and I just feel great pushing myself. I figured I would commit to running at least 2.5 miles a week. I run first thing in the morning, it gets my workout out of the way and gives me the energy that I need which helps me be more productive.

I think I really decided to commit to a full workout regimen because 1. I’m getting married and I want to be in my best shape ever, if I start now I won’t have to start later or try to rush and get fit, 2. While being fit doesn’t guarantee anything I am believing God for a easy and fit pregnancy (in the future) and 3. I am so much more confident when I feel good and my feeling good is a direct correlation of working out. Looking good is just an added result.

In a future post I will share my favorite workouts, tips and tricks to achieving results. I recommend doing what is best for you and finding what works for your body. Your body will thank you for it in the long run.
